Planning the 'Journeys' Project (OCA project 4C)

Now that we have got our designs we can develop them into paintings, drawings or collages and we can use all sorts of materials. What would be interesting to do is to explore the idea of these being marks of 'Ancient Journeys' and to see whether we can get the idea of things being old, worn away, being thin, delicate, discoloured and layered by the materials we use and the techniques we have explored.

This sheet is to help you share ideas and thoughts about the background to your design. Numbers 1 and 2 have been done to start you off.

Technique Used

 

1. Could make it go yellow by painting it with cold tea or coffee.

Paint using cold tea coffee.

 

1. If using muslin could colour yellow/brown to make look old.

Sponging using paint or dye

 

2. Could also crumple the paper, tear edges.

 

Paper folding

 

2. Fray and tear edges to show wear.

Now start gathering ideas about which technique is going to be the best to show your design.

1. You could use a scraffito technique with wax crayons.


2. You could use flour and water piped out to outline the shapes, paint when dry and crack to give an 'ancient look'when nearly complete.
