When I arrived in Easter Island we stayed in a local hostel. I must have had the most comfortable room so far during the whole of my travels. I actually had a proper bed and a double bed at that, with an ensuite bathroom! Serena and I thought we were in heaven with all these comforts!

Easter Island belongs to Chile so the local people speak the local Rapa Nui language and Spanish. Everyone on the island seemed very friendly and within no time at all we had arranged to hire a car for the following day. During the rest of the day we decided to go for a wander. We walked all the way over to a huge volcano crater and the view across the town and the crater was amazing. The crater itself was filled with water and reeds and looked really beautiful. We cheekily managed to hitch a lift back with two Americans who were having their own private tour and so we learnt quite a bit about the Moai and what they mean.
