When we arrived in the Grand Canyon the weather was cold. It was so icy that going down to the canyon floor was out. The pack animals that they use would be in danger of slipping on the rocks, carrying their load or riders down with them. The guides suggested going to the Imax Centre to see the canyon as if flying through it in a helicopter. I have never experienced anything like it, the canyon walls were so tall and steep that it was amazing that the helicopter did not to crash in to them. This was some experience, one that I won't forget!!

The Grand Canyon is one of the biggest natural barriers in the world. It is 281 miles long, up to 1,850 metres deep and at its narrowest, only 200 metres across.
Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is one of 19 major canyons carved into the rock of a high plateau by the Colorado River. Rainwater, frost and snow also help to erode the rock. The first white man to discover the canyon, in 1540, failed to get down to the river.

Colorado River

The first recorded trip through the Canyons was made by Wesley Powell, in 1869. Ten men in four boats travelled almost 1,000 miles through uncharted canyons. Three months later only six of the company emerged from the Grand Canyon at the mouth of the Virgin River.

Grand Canyon The huge size of the canyon is impossible to convey in a few photos, you really have to see it to believe it! But don't get too close to the edge!

I hope that this final journey has given you a taste for travelling and all the wonderful things there are to see. As for me, I will be glad to get back home for a well earned rest until the next adventure. I wonder where that will be?
